Do You Dread the Holidays?

There can be a million reasons why, but a big one is feeling a sense of loss.

A friend shared that her raucous family gatherings used to drive her crazy.

She couldn’t stand how loud they were & all the fighting (good natured and otherwise) between her siblings. But, now…with multiple losses over the years she misses that rambunctious energy.

My client Christine lost her mom a few years ago & ever since then she just dreads the holiday season…everyone is so (seemingly) happy & connected when she is out of sync and in a funk.

This may not be your experience, but the holidays can bring up a rollercoaster of emotions -not all of which are merry & bright!

If you’re feeling loss, grief, sadness, despair or any other emotion that doesn’t seem to “fit” with this time of year I want you to know that you’re not alone.

I see you.

Please don’t beat yourself up or should all over yourself about how things are supposed to be this time of year. Honor what you’re feeling.

AND please reach out to a trusted friend or therapist.

Talking about how you’re feeling to someone who will listen & not judge you can really help.

May we all have more peace & love this year.

If your feelings go beyond a typical funk & you’re thinking of harming yourself please text 988 for help.

You matter.
